Nursing Economic$ Foundation Announces 2024 Scholarship Recipients
$20,000 Awarded to Four Graduate Nursing Students
The Board of Trustees of the Nursing Economic$ Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Scholarship Awards: Katie Alwes, MSN, FNP-C; Chelsea Heneghan, MSN, CPNP-PC/AC; Jasmine Wong Juwvipart, BSN, RN;
and Tiffany C. Mitchell, MSN, MHA, RN, NEA-BC.
Katie Alwes, MSN, FNP-C, is a Family Nurse Practitioner with the Jacksonville Children’s and Multispecialty Clinic in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina. She earned her BSN from Radford University and her MSN from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. She will earn her DNP from Liberty University in August 2025.
Ms. Alwes expressed excitement when notified of her selection as a scholarship recipient. She stated, “I was in complete disbelief. This alleviates some of the financial burden. I am so grateful to receive the Anthony J. Jannetti/Nursing Economic$ Foundation Scholarship, which will allow me to achieve my career goals and positively impact my patients, the nursing profession, the health care system and my community.” She added, “This scholarship will allow me to achieve my goal of earning my DNP, which has been a goal of mine since I was an undergraduate.”
After obtaining her DNP, Ms. Alwes plans to continue in her clinical practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner working in a multi-cultural setting. She stated she would be “focusing on leading initiatives that focus on quality improvement in my practice and the greater health care system to improve health outcomes for patients.” In addition, she plans to continue educating and inspiring nurse practitioners and other health care professionals.
Chelsea Heneghan, MSN, CPNP-PC/AC, is a Nurse Practitioner working in Pediatric Palliative Care at Boston Child ren’s Hospital. She received both her BSN and MSN from Columbia University and is due to receive her DNP/MBA from Johns Hopkins University in May 2025.
When answering the telephone call notifying her of receipt of the scholarship, she said, “This was great call to pick up! I was overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement. This scholarship represents not only a significant financial support, but also a recognition of my dedication and hard work in the field of nursing and health care. The Anthony J. Jannetti/Nursing Economic$ Founda tion Scholarship will enable me to complete the 3-year intensive dual degree DNP/MBA program.”
Ms. Heneghan is completing her final class this semester and working on submitting her final project, which will then be implemented at Boston Children’s Hospital, to work with families who have children in palliative care. She stated, “With this degree, I plan to leverage my passion for quality and process improvement to advance my career in clinical operations focused on pediatric palliative care for children with serious illness. My long-term goals are to hone my skills in recognizing the needs of staff who care for patients and families, and operationalize roles and systems to meet those needs.”
Jasmine Wong Juwvipart, BSN, RN, is currently a Registered Nurse/Clinical Nurse with Stanford Health Care. She received her BSN from UCLA and is due to receive her DNP from Samuel Merritt University in August 2025.
Ms. Juwvipart shared, “When I received the call I had been selected for the scholarship, I was coming out of an exam, gasped, and was absolutely ecstatic! It was such an honor to learn of my selection for an Anthony J. Jannetti/Nursing Economic$ Foundation scholarship, and I am deeply appreciative for your support. Your investment in my education and professional development means the world to me, it is an honor to be recognized for my dedication and hard work. Receiving this scholarship left me speechless, overwhelmed with gratitude, and a deep sense of responsibility to make the most of this opportunity.”
As to her plans after receiving her DNP, Ms. Juwvipart states, “I plan to take on leadership roles within professional organizations and engage in research to advance the field of nursing. I hope to give back to growing future students through education. My professional goals reflect the commitment, with a focus on advocacy, leadership, research, quality improve ment, and community involvement.”
After serving as an intern at the California Department of Public Health, RN Unit, working on a California Senate bill, Ms. Juwvipart has committed to working toward social change, developing an awareness of public issues, and influencing public policy.
Tiffany C. Mitchell, MSN, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, has been working in nursing since 2009, currently as a Clinical Director at North Central Surgical Center, while attending nursing school. She earned both her BSN and her MSN at the University of Texas, Arlington. She is pursuing her DNP at this school, and she expects to earn her DNP in December 2025.
Upon receiving notification about her selection as a recipient of an Anthony J. Jannetti/Nursing Economic$ Foundation Scholarship, Ms. Mitchell said, “It was an unexpected blessing! I was overjoyed and humbled to learn I received this scholarship.” As with many nurses pursuing advanced degrees, she mentioned that she had some concerns about the costs involved in this endeavor.
Ms. Mitchell further explained, “This scholar ship will allow me to continue progressing in my DNP program. Moving forward with positive momentum in my education is key to my five-year goal of becoming a nurse executive. It will also grant me the skills I require to success fully lead teams and drive patient outcomes.”
After receiving her DNP, she has plans to mentor and inspire the next generation of nurses and nurse leaders. She also envisions fulfilling the role of an adjunct faculty member in her future and taking on the dual role as a leader in health care and academia. She has a strong commitment to continuous learning and fostering excellence in nursing practice.
Since its establishment, the Nursing Economic$ Foundation has promoted the advanced educational and research activities of nursing leaders, managers, and executives who are pursuing graduate level nurs ing degrees. With the 2024 scholarships, the Founda tion has awarded over $470,000 to future nurse executives toward tuition for their degrees.
